Hoping your July 4th was spectacular and you enjoyed the 4 day weekend many had.
The summer is in full swing. Did you know that this is butterfly season, what a wonderful experience to share with the kids. Our good friend thepottedpatio raises swallowtail butterflies. She sells kits for you to experience the wonder of butterflies. Make sure to check her out for when the little critters are available. You can easily do it on your own if you would like.
Supplies needed:
Butterfly cage
Food-A plant (Parsley, celery, dill, fennel)
Caterpillars
Paper towels

Go out in nature and wherever you see any of the above mentioned plants search for caterpillars, might even find some in your garden. Check for caterpillars when you go buy the plant needed. Make sure you have you supplies ready. Place paper towels on bottom of cage, make sure to change every few days. Do not handle the caterpillar, break off the stem where the caterpillar is and gently place it on top of the plant in your butterfly cage. That’s it! Watch the beautiful transformation happen. They take a few weeks to become beautiful butterflies. Let us know if you try it!
