This is Kathleen O’Hara and she needs a kidney.  She is 45 years old.  She has had kidney disease since the young age of 13 and has had two kidney transplants so far.  She desperately needs another since her second kidney has failed.  Read her story here

Entrepreneur of the Month

This month’s entrepreneur spotlight goes to a Boricua from the Bronx who currently resides in Queens.  She is just launched her website www.LindaCamacho.com Make sure to check if you or someone you know wants to write or illustrate a book.

She is a literary agent at Gallt and Zacker Literary Agency, and has made a career in publishing for nearly 20 years. Linda answers my question, what is a literary agent and what do they do in simple terms for us to get a better understanding. She writes “It’s easy to forget that it’s a bit of a mystery to people at times. A literary agent is the person who sells a writer’s manuscript to a book publisher. They’re the middle person between the writer and the editor, essentially. Many traditional publishers are closed to direct submissions from writers, so the agent is the one who submits the work to an editor on the writer’s behalf. Then if an editor makes an offer to buy the manuscript, the agent negotiates the contract and helps smooth the publication process along the way for the writer. “
 A couple of her clients’ books include the award-winning graphic novel Miss Quinces by Kat Fajardo, Ann Dávila Cardinal’s The Storyteller’s Death, a mystery set in 1970s Puerto Rico (check out the quenepas on the cover!), and my client Stephanie Rodriguez’s graphic novel Doodles from the Boogie Down, being from the boogie down myself I will definitely check this one out myself.
