Chef Derick López and his husband Victor Vargas started out selling a tight menu of Puerto Rican fare at NYC street fairs before opening this full-service restaurant in Astoria that serves standout bacalaitos, thin cod fritters. It has just 19 seats but serves an expansive menu of appetizers like empanadas, sandwiches including a cuban, mains, soups, sides, and desserts. Fruit shakes and coffee drinks are also on hand, and there are daily lunch specials.
